Insecticidal Effect of an Enhanced Attapulgite for the Control of Four Stored-Product Beetle Species

We examined the insecticidal effect of three different dust formulations, which were attapulgite (W), mix with oregano essential oil 52% carvacrol (D1), and 75% (D2), in four major stored-product beetle species, Sitophilus oryzae (L.), Tribolium confusum Jacquelin du Val, Rhyzopertha dominica (F.), Trogoderma granarium Everts. was most susceptible at all followed by T. R. dominica. In contrast, larvae showed lowest mortality rates even on 14th day observation highest concentration (2000 ppm). Progeny production particularly reduced for species relative to controls. Nevertheless, complete suppression offspring observed only case S. oryzae, while less giving an average up 20 individuals per vial 2000 ppm. To our knowledge, this study is first that has activity compounds combination control stored-grain insect species. Additional experimentation required indicate rationale using these natural resource-based materials under a non-chemical strategy post-harvest stages agricultural commodities.
